Bad news for Bad Habit
Sunday, August 3, 2008 at 06:30PM The Bad Habit team had a big (and very hot) weekend.
The team was invited to the McLouth, KS, Threshing Bee for the mini-rod pull Saturday afternoon. While there wasn't a class for our tractor to pull in, the guys jogged over to display Bad Habit for our local fans and make a few exhibition pulls. They also stepped in to hook tractors and maintain the track during the pull. Despite the heat, everyone seemed to have a pretty great time.
This morning, everyone took off for Lawrence, KS, for the rescheduled Douglas County Fair pull with Renegade Pullers. Chris was first to pull, unopposed, in the 1350 4-cylinder class. Then, due to some line-up confusion, Matt pulled second in the 1550 V8 class. Then, Chris attempted to pull again in the 1450 4-cylinder class, but ran into some troubles.
On his first attempt to pull in the 1450-weight class, the tractor died due to a bad battery. Luckily, the team always carries a spare - so a few minutes later, they were ready to run again. On his second attempt at the start, Chris rev'd the engine, the tractor died and smoke pursued. Chris reached around for the tractor's kill plug while the pull staff gathered with fire extinguishers. Thankfully, they didn't need to use them! There was some damage to some wiring due problems with the new battery, and while the tractor will spend its next week in the shop, we'll have it ready to roll again next weekend in Lawrence, KS, and Dekalb and Laredo, MO. Check out the calendar for upcoming pull dates and times.
Special thanks to all our fans that came out to the track today. It was definitely a hot afternoon and the hardening track threw everyone some problems, but we had some good fun and appreciate all the support!
Also - for anyone interested - Renegade Pullers is offering white and gray Renegade Pullers t-shirts at $12 each. We enjoy pulling locally and like to support the leagues that help us to stay close to home!
